SUMMARY:Big Muddy Speaker Series at Bike Stop Cafe
DESCRIPTION:BMSS now at Bike Stop Cafe – still on 2nd Wed.\n701 S. Riverside Drive in Saint Charles – also accessible from Main Street at the corner of Perry\nhttps://www.bikestopcafes.com/cafe \nSalty Winters: How Road Salt Changes Lives\nDanelle Haake\, PhD\, Stream Ecologist and Director of Illinois RiverWatch\n6:00 p.m. Social Hour\n7:00 p.m. Presentation\nPresentation is FREE and open to the public! \nWhen winter snow and ice falls\, people still go about their daily lives: working\, playing\, learning\, and driving their cars to get where they’re going. This is made possible through our use of plows to remove the top layer of snow from the pavement and the use of road salt to melt the rest. But where does all that salt go? And what happens when it gets there? \nDanelle Haake is the Director of Illinois RiverWatch and a Stream Ecologist with the National Great Rivers Research & Education Center in Alton\, Illinois. She has worked in the water quality and ecological restoration realms for over 20 years\, including developing water quality management plans in Iowa\, managing reconstructed prairie and woodland habitats with Missouri Botanical Garden\, and studying the impact of road salt on stream ecosystems. Since 2010\, she has been coordinating community science participants in an effort to better understand the connections between road salt and water quality. \nThe Illinois RiverWatch Network is a volunteer monitoring initiative coordinated by the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC℠). RiverWatch is the only statewide biological monitoring program that provides volunteers a hands-on opportunity to become stewards of our local waterways by monitoring stream habitat and water quality. The program was originally established in 1995 and has since expanded to the statewide level\, with over 200 participants monitoring streams annually.

SUMMARY:Special Handling Seminar for Team Leaders and Clean Up Organizers
DESCRIPTION:Each year Greenway Network\, in conjunction with MO Stream Team\, brings together experts from all areas to talk about how to deal with trash and situations that are outside of the usual straws and water bottles.  This includes things like tanks and barrels that might contain toxic substances\, needles and sharps\, medical waste and things that might require the intervention of law enforcement.  We know these things don’t happen every day\, but we want to make sure that team leaders and project coordinators are prepared for their unlikely occurrence. \nThis year the seminar will take place at the Headquarters of the USFWS’ Big Muddy Wildlife Refuge in Boonville from 9 am until 3 pm.  Lunch will be available.  A donation of $10 is suggested to offset the cost of the meal. \nRegistration for the on-line virtual option will open closer to the event. \nSpace is extremely limited. Register below: \n\n\n\n\nTeam Leader Special Handling Training Session\nTeam Leader Special Handling Training Session\nThis virtual training is for anyone who is planning or pre-scouting for cleanups and works with volunteers cleaning up floodplains\, rivers and streams. The virtual and in person sessions will start at 9 am on the last Saturday in February and run until approximately 3 pm with a few short breaks. Instructions for connecting will be emailed to you a few days before the session. \nThis seminar is presented by Greenway Network\, Inc in conjunction with Missouri Stream Team. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVolunteer Info\n\n\n\n Name\n *\n \n \n \n \n\n\n Address\n *\n \n \n\n	Address\n\n\n	\n Street Address	\n \n	Street Address\n\n	\n Apt./Building/Suite #	\n \n	Apt./Building/Suite #\n\n	\n City	\n \n	City\n\n	\n State	\n \n \n \n AlabamaAlaskaArkansasArizonaCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyoming \n	State\n\n	\n Zip	\n \n	Zip\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n Email\n *\n \n \n \n \n\n\n Phone\n *\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n Stream Team Number (if you have one)\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n reCAPTCHA\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n Text\n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n \n If you are human\, leave this field blank. \n \n \n \n\nSubmit
